Issa Rae narrates MasterClass campaign by Anomaly LA
New ad campaign inspires people to own their narrative, featuring Issa Rae, Alicia Keys and more.
Multi-awarded communications agency Anomaly LA is the developer behind MasterClass’ "The World Could Use One of You," a powerful campaign that inspires people to be their best selves in the service of others. The new campaign was launched Wednesday by online education streaming platform MasterClass welcomes incoming instructors Issa Rae and Alicia Keys to join Neil deGrasse Tyson and others.
“Sometimes it's hard to see what you could be,” said Cori Johnson, creative director of Anomaly LA. “When there isn't a reflection of you out there in the world, it's hard to imagine it or believe in yourself. But you should. Stop looking for a mirror, and start being one.”
"The World Could Use One of You" features three films that emphasize the strength and importance of being the best version of ourselves. The titles of the films, “Mirror Affirmations,” “Your Words Create Your World,” and “You & the Universe” are brought about by the influential words of the instructors themselves.
"The MasterClass platform is rooted in self-empowerment through learning, so we owe it to ourselves to share our voices and take action with courage,” said David Schriber, CMO of MasterClass.
The campaign is directed and brought to life by renowned artist and filmmaker Jenn Nkiru, who was known for directing "Apeshit" by The Carters and Beyonce’s musical film and visual album “Black Is King.” She collaborated with the creative director for Beyonce and Lady Gaga, Todd Tourso, in creating “Your Words Create Your World,” the film featuring Alicia Keys.
"It has been an incredible journey working on this campaign as it's given me the opportunity to creatively showcase the value of empowering yourself and those around you," Nkiru said.
"That message is more important now than ever before, and each of these films offers a sense of hope and resilience during a time when the world needs it the most."
Historically, Anomaly has been recognized for a very wide range of work with accolades from Cannes Lions, Effies and Fast Company's Most Innovative.
